How it works

How to use the wheel of names

Add students, coworkers, contestants or family members and let the wheel make a visible random selection. Elimination mode creates a no-repeat order.

Use the name wheel when a group needs a visible, impartial selection. It is quick enough for one name and flexible enough to create a complete randomized order.

  1. 1

    Enter every name

Replace the examples or paste your class, team, guest, or entrant list. Keep Remove duplicates on if each person should have one entry.

  2. 2

    Set the draw style

Use equal odds for a fair name picker. Turn on Remove winner after spin when you need several different people in sequence.

  3. 3

    Spin for a name

Run the wheel where the group can see it, record the result, then continue to the next draw if needed.

A name picker for classes, meetings, and games

Teachers can choose a student to answer, facilitators can set a speaking order, and families can decide who goes first. Because the names remain visible on the wheel, everyone can check the list before the selection begins.

How to make a no-repeat name draw

Enable Remove winner after spin before the first draw. After a name is selected, choose Continue and that name will leave the wheel. Repeat until every person has been assigned a turn or the number of names you need has been reached.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

Can the same name be picked twice?

Yes by default. Turn on Remove winner after spin if each person should be selected only once during the session.

Can I paste a long list of names?

Yes. Select Paste list, add one name per line or separate names with commas, and choose Use list.

Does the wheel of names store personal information online?

The names are processed in your browser. Saving the wheel keeps the list in local browser storage on this device.

Can one person have extra entries?

You can add the name more than once with duplicate removal off, but Weighted choices is clearer because it shows the intended difference in odds.
